Stream flows impact Whitefish Lake
The limiting nutrient concept developed in the field of ecology a century ago states that the yield of any organism will be determined by the abundance of the substance that, in relation to the needs of the organism, is least abundant in the environment. For algae in a lake, the limiting nutrient is usually either nitrogen or phosphorus. In multispecies algal communities like we have in Whitefish Lake, growth rates among different species are likely to be affected by the timing and delivery amounts of nutrients to the system.

SNAP important protection against hunger
The highly effective federal assistance program called the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, makes it possible for Americans in low income households to protect themselves from hunger and malnutrition. As currently administered, SNAP has one of the lowest error rates in providing benefits to eligible households of any federal program. It reaches the low income populations for which it is intended.
League play in full swing at WLGC
League play is in full swing at the golf course with three separate leagues operating plus the Ladies Day events each week. Both the mens Senior League (growing exponentially) and ladies league are every Tuesday. The Flathead National Forest has released a draft environmental impact statement for its new forest plan. The plan includes four alternatives — a no action alternative, an alternative that includes no wilderness recommendations and then two others that are somewhere in between.
