WCA girls basketball claims championship tournament gold

The Whitefish Christian Academy girls team ended their season on a high note after securing the championship at the Stillwater Basketball Tournament at Stillwater Christian School in Kalispell earlier this month.  

The tournament was designated for seventh grade teams and included teams from across the valley of various sizes. WCA played with a range of ages, including seventh, sixth and fifth graders. 

It was a true double elimination tournament, which means that after a loss, teams still have a chance at the championship.  

WCA had their first loss in the third round but then played three consecutive games to ultimately win the championship against Deer Park School, one of the best teams in the valley. The final victory was decided in the closing seconds. WCA won 20-19 with a timely basket from Abby Burks. 

This is WCA’s second girls basketball championship trophy and its first ever girls victory in the Stillwater Tournament. The boys team won their first Stillwater Tournament earlier this year.
