Youth ski league races coming to Whitefish Mountain Resort
The Flathead Valley Ski Education Foundation will host two days of junior ski racing at Whitefish Mountain Resort on Feb. 22-23.
The event will be for male and female U8-U14 (age 6-13) competitors. The competitions are part of the US Ski and Snowboard’s Northern Division’s Youth Ski League series which includes stops in Big Sky, Red Lodge, Bridger Bowl, and Terry Peaks, South Dakota.
The Northern Division includes all of Montana and parts of Wyoming and South Dakota. Competitors for these events will be coming from ski clubs throughout Montana including Anaconda, Big Sky, Billings, Bozeman, Butte, Great Falls, Helena, and Missoula, as well as the Flathead Valley.
Saturday’s race will be a Giant Slalom on Ed’s Run starting at 10 a.m., followed by a Slalom on Ed’s on Sunday. The racecourses are accessed by Chair Two and can be easily viewed from the upper base area near Ed & Mully’s restaurant.
More than 40 racers representing the Flathead Valley Ski Education Foundation will be competing in these events. Come out and support your local youth. FVSEF is a nonprofit community-based organization that has been supporting student athletes in the region since 1973.
Volunteers are still needed for gate keeping and back up hand timing for Sunday’s Slalom. All volunteers will receive a lift ticket if needed for access on race days, as well as a complementary lift voucher.
