Whitefish girls swim team second at state

The Whitefish girls swim team took second and the boys tied for sixth at the Class AB swim meet in Great Falls last weekend. 

Billings Central swept both the girls and boys team competition with 116 and 120.5 points respectively. Whitefish girls were second with 57 points. Whitefish boys tied for sixth with Columbia Falls, each earning four points.  

The girls took second in both the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays and third in the 400 freestyle relay.  

The boys placed fifth in the 200 freestyle relay.  

The girls had a solid front in the individual 200 freestyle; freshman Liesel Klein was second, senior Gretel Vine fifth and senior Georgia Morrell sixth.  

Klein also placed second in the 500 freestyle, followed by sophomore Sophie McDermott in fifth.  

Vine swam to a fourth place finish in the 100 freestyle.  

Junior Avery Theis had two stellar sprint swims, placing second in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke.  

Morrell nabbed sixth in the 100 butterfly.  

For the boys, junior Gavin Sibson broke into the top six of the final heats, taking sixth in the 200 freestyle and fourth in the 500.
