Whitefish outscored the Lady Pirates 46-43 in Northwestern A Conference play on Thursday, Feb. 6, revenging a loss to Polson earlier in the season.

“I thought the win versus Polson was very significant as it gave us the belief that we could beat a team that had already defeated us earlier this year,” Whitefish Head Coach Bob Bolam said. “It was a great confidence builder and keeps us looking at the possibilities still ahead of us.”

Whitefish led 14-13 after one quarter, but Polson went into halftime with a 24-22 lead. Down three heading into the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs outscored their opponent by six points in the final frame.

“As a collective, the entire varsity group that played Polson last Thursday night stood out,” Bolam said. “We played aggressive defense, kept in the game as it went along, and hit enough free throws down the stretch to seal the win.”

Allie Shors was the leading scorer with 14 points, with six rebounds, six assists, and six blocked shots. Yoli Krastev had 11 points, and Izze Short added seven points and 13 rebounds. Charlize Ullrich also had a big game with six points, six rebounds, four steals, and seven blocked shots.

The win improved Whitefish to 2-4 in conference play and 4-7 overall, while Polson fell to 3-4 in the conference and 5-8 overall.

“I like where we are from a playing perspective right now,” Bolam said. “We are starting to put things together and understand how to work together to become a better team. Hopefully, it will continue as we play some tough games in the next couple of weeks.”
