Record breaking readers at Whitefish Library
Continuing a tradition of smashing summer reading, readers at Whitefish Community Library’s Summer Reading Challenge broke their own record and earned $1,954 for this year’s chosen nonprofit, Glacier Area Special Olympics.
Three hundred eighty people read for a total of 10.85 months, day and night, to earn nearly $2,000 for Glacier Area Special Olympics.
Backed by the Whitefish Credit Union, readers of all ages tracked the minutes they spent reading and earned a sticker for each row they completed in their reading log. The stickers went onto a Special Olympics flag and the Credit Union donated $1 for each sticker to Glacier Area Special Olympics.
After spending a couple of days counting the stickers, Youth Services Librarian Gina Schiff said Whitefish readers should be proud, as they topped last year’s total by $793.
“Each year, the Whitefish Credit Union pledges an amount. Each year, our readers read beyond that amount and each year, the Credit Union honors that,” Schiff said. “We are so happy for our readers and for the Glacier Area Special Olympics.”
