Whitefish High School bond ballots due Sept.17
Ballots regarding two proposed bonds for Whitefish High School are due by Sept. 17 and must be received by 8 p.m. They may be dropped off at the Whitefish School District office at 600 E. 2nd Street.
Voters will consider separate bond requests totaling $32.6 million to fund a high school expansion and remodel, and to build an on-campus football stadium and track. The high school expansion bond request is $26.5 million, and the athletic bond is $6.1 million.
Whitefish voters last October turned down a $33.7 million bond issue that would have funded both the high school expansion and a more robust athletic facility project in one fell swoop.
The high school academic expansion bond will provide additional classrooms and labs. It will also fund renovations to the learning kitchen for an expanded culinary arts program and create a flexible learning environment at Whitefish Independent High School.
According to the district, the bond will provide more multipurpose space adjacent to the gym for flexible use and add classrooms and facilities for core academic classes and science, technology, engineering, arts and math programs.
It will grow career and technical education programs, including culinary arts, hospitality and tourism, building trades, business, agriculture, biomedical science, biotechnology and horticulture. The bond will also be used to improve safety and security by reducing student travel to auxiliary buildings and adding secure entrances.
The athletic bond proposal will include a new 10-lane track and field, a district-owned football field, new grandstands with 1,500 seats and room for expansion, new admissions, concessions, restroom facilities, additional parking, a new grass practice/multipurpose field and improved accessibility.
Whitefish School District staff will be available to answer questions at the Back to School Bash on the Whitefish Middle School lawn on Sept. 12 from 4 to 6 p.m.
