The Whitefish girls placed third at their own home invitational last week at Whitefish Lake Golf Club, led by a close bunching of Kellie Klepper, Charlotte Wallace, and Sophie Douglas.

“The girls' team has had a different lead runner each of the last four races. This week Maren ran strongly to produce a season-best time as our top finisher,” Whitefish Head Coach Richard Menicke said. “The girls’ success all hinges on them running in a pack close together. We're working on lowering the group times as we approach State.”

Klepper was 16th (22:15.98), while Wallace was 17th (22:18.22) and Douglas was 18th (22:19.84).

Not far behind them was Sierra Gibb in 22nd place (22:51.47).

On the boys side, Simon Douglas was 11th (17:22.28) and Ethan Amick was 21st (18:18.66)

“Simon is running well and had a great Mountain West race,” Menicke said. “He's working hard on improving his middle mile, which, as in Missoula, moves him up in the pack. His kick was incredible; he passed close to ten athletes in the final 300 meters.”

At the Mountain West in Missoula, featuring some of the best runners in the western U.S., Douglas placed 26th (16:25.91) while Logan Hyland was 271st (18:59.02). In the girls race, Maren Cromie was 145th (21:58.65), while Douglas was 213rd (22:55.71), and Grace Inabnit was 218th (22:59.45).

“We have 12 days until our next race, allowing us to heal injuries and train with focus on areas to improve,” Menicke said. “Both the boys and girls are in great shape. The freshmen boys are gaining massive experience each race, Mason and Peter had PRs in Missoula.”
