May 30, 1974

Twenty-two additional parking meters were installed on lower Central Avenue, between Railway Street and First Street. Approximately 10 additional meters would be added on First Street east of Central Avenue after the new curbing and sidewalk are completed.

May 31, 1984

Officials from the Montana Department of Fish Wildlife and Parks discussed plans for developing the Les Mason State Recreation Area. Don Hyyppa, chief of Montana's Park Division presented two development alternatives, one including a boat ramp and one without. Due to public comment received, the lay of the land, and the limited size of the site, the parks division recommended the no ramp alternative.

May 26, 1994

Jess Rodman carded scores of 73 and 72 to become Whitefish High School's first state golf medalist since 1990 and the girls golf team finished at the top of the list for the seventh time in nine years. Whitefish placed three players in the top 10. Reagan Peschel was third overall firing rounds of 81 and 83. Jenny Kramer shot a two round total of 168 to finish fifth and Kelly Foster fired a 172 to tie for seventh. Peschel, Kramer and Foster all earned All-State honors.

Before there were homesteads, Bill Koenig’s great, great, great grandfather settled on the land that is now Majestic Valley Arena. Koenig joined farmers Scott Hedstrom and William Spurzem and appeared before the county commissioners for permission to change his 40-acre agricultural zoning designation to five-acre suburban/agricultural. The county OK’d the switch. The three represented over 350 combined years in farming in the valley. “We need to get out of debt, but we want to stay on the farm, so we sell off a corner,” explained Hedstrom. “It’s like selling a kid. But the way the valley is going, we’re not going to be farming forever. We’d like to.”

The City-County Planning Board was unable to hear a pair of hot-button issues due to the lack of a quorum. With two members absent, the board was forced to cancel its meeting. Agenda items included the Second Street Residences subdivision and a Lakeshore variance for The Lodge at Whitefish Lake marina expansion. Both agenda items were postponed to the May 15th meeting. “Assuming we can get a quorum then,” said planning director Dave Taylor.
