Whitefish tennis wins three out of four against Hamilton, Corvallis

The Whitefish boys tennis team picked up victories against Hamilton and Corvallis, while the girls won their matchup against Hamilton on Saturday, May 11.

The Bulldog boys notched a 6-1 win over Hamilton thanks to strong play from their doubles team, sweeping all three matches. Whitefish’s Jack Oehlerich won the No. 2 singles matchup over Micah VanSickle 6-0, 6-1, while Walt Seigmund and Luke Craig were victorious in their singles matchups.

The doubles teams showed up. Buren Brust and Jesse Burrough won their No. 1 doubles matchups against Finn Dufresne and Jason Chaplin 6-3, 6-4. Dane Hunt and Aaron Anderson won their No. 2 doubles battle 6-1, 6-7(9), 6-0. Cole Moses and Logan Hyland were also winners.

Against Corvallis, the Whitefish boys had a clean 7-0 sweep. No. 1 singles player Oehlerich defeated Corvallis’ Pierce Yuskas 6-2, 6-2. Owen Erickson won the No. 2 matchup 6-2, 6-2, while Seigmund and Aaron Anderson finished up the singles sweep. In doubles play, Buren Brust and Jesse Burrough won the No. 1 doubles match over Corvallis’ Emmett Allsop and Brannon Fehr 6-3, 6-4. Dane Hunt and Cole Moses were winners along with Logan Hyland and Luke Craig. 

The Whitefish girls defeated Hamilton 4-3, thanks to solid depth on the Lady Bulldogs squad. Ainsley Grubb won the No. 3 singles matchup against Hamilton’s Sam Geroy 6-2, 6-4. Dessi Young won the No. 4 singles battle to even up the scoring on the singles side.

In double’s action, Zoey Marzo and Camry Kelch won the No. 2 doubles matchup against Hamilton’s Codie Clarke and Charlie Holmes 7-6 (5), 6-1. Lucy Marzo and Gretel Vine won via injury retirement to clinch the victory. 

Whitefish lost to the Corvallis girls 4-3. Liesl Brust won her No. 2 singles battle against Corvallis’ Ava Wilcox 6-1, 6-1 and Ainsley Grubb won the No. 3 singles battle 6-2, 6-4. 

In double’s action, Camry Kelch and Zoey Marzo were the lone victorious Whitefish team, defeating Brooke Child and Anika Allred 6-2, 6-0.

Whitefish defeats Bigfork and Polson 

Whitefish put on a clinic defeating both Bigfork and Polson in girls and boys tennis action on Tuesday, May 7. 

Against Bigfork, the Whitefish boys defeated the Vikings 6-1. Owen Erickson won his No. 1 singles battle 6-3, 6-1, while Jack Oehlerich, Walt Seigmund and Aaron Anderson were also victorious. 

In doubles play, Mason Kelch and Dane Hunt won the No. 1 doubles battle against Bigfork 6-0, 6-1 over Dylan Porrovecchio and Seth Christaens. Buren Brust and Jesse Burrough were also winners. 

The Whitefish girls downed Bigfork 5-2, thanks to solid play all around. Liesl Brust won the No. 1 singles matchup against Tessa Troyer 6-4, 6-0. Alivia Lusko won the No. 2 battle, while Ainsley Grubb was also victorious at singles No. 3. 

In doubles action, Zoey Marzo and Camry Kelch were victorious at No. 1 doubles, while Maggie Mercer and Ainsley Scott won their doubles matchup too. 

The Whitefish girls notched a 7-0 victory over state power Polson. Liesl Brust defeated Polson’s Vivian Grainey 6-4, 6-4 in No. 1 singles action. Alivia Luska was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 2 and Dessi Young and Ainsley Grubb were also singles winners.

In doubles action, the No. 1 doubles squad for Whitefish of Ainsley Scott and Maggie Mercer defeated Polson’s Katie Smith and Julia Bernard 7-6 (7), 0-6, 6-2. Camry Kelch and Zoey Marzo won a thrilled 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-2 and Fretel Vine/Delila Vine completed the doubles sweep at No. 3. 

The Whitefish boys won 6-1 over Polson. Owen Erickson won the No. 2 singles matchup against Brandon Moss 6-4, 6-4, while Walt Seigmund and Aaron Anderson won their matches as well. 

The No. 1 doubles team of Buren Brust and Jesse Burrough were able to take down Otto Lund and Tate Barentsen 7-6 (9), 4-6, 6-4. Mason Kelch and Dane Hunt were winners, while Cole Moses and Logan Hyland took down Polson’s No. 3 doubles team. 

Whitefish girls 5, Bigfork 2
