Karrow Avenue reconstruction underway
Karrow Avenue is closed to through traffic from West Second Street to West Seventh Street due to construction on the Karrow Avenue Reconstruction Project.
Traffic is only permitted to use the roadway for trips beginning or ending within the closure. This applies to residents who live on Karrow Avenue, South Karrow Estates, Fox Farm Drive, and Centennial Drive. It also applies to visitors, deliveries, garbage collection, and emergency vehicles.
Alternate routes include West Seventh Street, Baker Avenue, West Second Street, Good Avenue, Jennings Avenue and Geddes Avenue. Fairway Drive is a private roadway and through traffic is not permitted.
Construction began in late May and the roadway should be reopened to traffic on or before Sept. 25. However, there could be additional days granted due to weather delays or change orders.
The Karrow Avenue Reconstruction Project is being funded by the city’s resort tax.
This collector street serves a vital role in the city’s transportation network and the project was selected based on heavy vehicular traffic volume, unsuitable roadway conditions and the need for a bike/pedestrian connection between West Second Street and West Seventh Street.
One of the highest priorities of this job is the enhancements of driver and pedestrian safety that will be realized through roadway improvements, street lighting, intersection improvements and improved pedestrian accommodations.
