The Glacier Avalanche 12U team won the first-place banner at the Brent Roeber Memorial Tournament, hosted by the Butte Copper Kings, on Jan 7. The team battled organizations from Idaho and Montana to make it into the championship game against the Spokane Jr. Chiefs.
Despite early wins during the tournament, the Avalanche team, which includes two young women, had to rally together to come back from behind. In the nail-biting final three minutes of the game, forward Asher Dyck scored the tying goal, followed by Lane Eash who scored the winning goal during a power play.
“A comeback win of this nature speaks to the level of positivity, teamwork and individual commitment these players bring to every practice and game,” said head coach Cole Turner. “We are extremely proud of how they represented GHA and the Valley.”
This season promises to continue to be action-packed with the upcoming East Kootenay League Championship Tournament on March 1-3.
In October, kids from all over the Valley tried out for 11 positions – 10 skaters and one goalie, on GHA’s 12U “A team,” and have been practicing diligently.
