At the Ted Kato Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 20, Whitefish had two medalists, including one champion.

Landree Aurand won the 132-pound bracket, notching a 49-second pin over Plains/Hot Springs’ Andrew Waterbury and a 62-second pin over Priest River’s Haiden Leach in the quarterfinals.

Aurand pinned Arlee’s Jeremy Martin in 1:17 in the semifinals to advance to the championship match. Aurand won first place by pinning Fairfield’s Sloan Giles in 3:39.

At 160 pounds, Henry Bennetts placed second, running through the bracket before having a medical forfeit in the championship bout. In the first round, Bennetts pinned Priest River’s Nate Fegert in 90 seconds. In the quarterfinals, Bennetts pinned Cascade’s Asher Nelson in 70 seconds to advance to the semifinals.

Bennetts then fell Mission-Charlo’s Kelby Dumont in 3:26 to advance to the championship bout.

Four wrestling meets that Whitefish was scheduled to compete at were canceled in the last couple of weeks due to extreme weather.

On Friday, the Bulldogs will host the Whitefish Duals at 4 p.m. at the WHS gym. They also were scheduled to compete after press time on Tuesday in Libby.
