Whitefish Mountain Resort officials announced that recent snowfall allowed them to reopen the Benny Up Route for uphill traffic on Tuesday, Jan. 9. The route was closed due to insufficient snow.

The East Route reopened last week after both uphill routes were closed due to low snow and the expected large holiday crowd between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

“We’re happy to open the Benny Up Route to our uphill community. We know this is an important activity for many and we want to see everyone enjoy themselves up here,” Whitefish Mountain Resort President Nick Polumbus said. "Conditions in December made it challenging to open terrain mountainwide, but we're hopeful the weather has finally turned in our favor. We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation over this past month."

The resort received over a foot of snowfall over the past few days. The settled base at the summit as of Monday afternoon was 55 inches and a total of 104 inches have fallen this season thus far. Another storm was expected in the area from Tuesday to Wednesday.

WMR reminds guests that all usual restrictions described in the uphill policy will be in effect.
