Whitefish girls swimmers place second in Polson
The Whitefish girls swim team placed second at the Polson High School Invite on Friday, Jan. 5, notching 275 team points. The girls were also the top-finishing Class A team at the competition.
"The girls team was pretty excited to get first in our division," Whitefish head swimming coach Rachel Meyer said. "We are looking forward to seeing how they place overall at state."
Whitefish’s Avery Theis won the girls 100-yard freestyle (59.76), followed by teammates Georgia Morrell in second (1:04.79) and Gretel Vine in third (1:05.44).
Lady Bulldog Sophie McDermott was second in the girls 500-yard freestyle (6:32.63).
Emi Qunell finished third in the girls 200-yard freestyle (2:30.06). Morrell was fifth in the 50 free (29.27), while teammates Ella Idelman and Qunell were seventh (31.13) and eighth (31.48), respectively.
Theis was third in the 100-yard backstroke and Vine took fifth in the 100 backstroke (1:14.95).
The Whitefish girls’ 200-yard medley relay team swam to second place (2:12.85) and the Whitefish girls’ 200-yard freestyle relay team was also second (1:57.15).
For the boys, Meyer says they competed well individually and continue to see progress.
"The boys had many personal bests and have been making lots of progress," Meyer said. "A few of our key boy swimmers were out due to injury and we hope to have a full team by state."
Whitefish swim will be back in the pool this Saturday in Kalispell at 11 a.m. at the Summit.
