Resort reopens uphill skiing following holiday weekend
Whitefish Mountain Resort reopened one uphill route for skiers on Tuesday, Jan. 2 following the New Year’s holiday weekend.
The resort said in a release, “After assessing terrain conditions, post-holiday visitation and the feats of our talented grooming team, we are happy to reopen the East Route to uphill traffic starting Tuesday, Jan. 2, subject to the usual restrictions described in our uphill policy.”
WMR said the Benny Up Route would remain closed to uphill traffic for now, but staff is aiming to resume snowmaking efforts there and open additional terrain.
The resort originally paused all uphill skiing traffic within the WMR boundaries on Monday, Dec. 25 due to unfavorable snow conditions and increased holiday visitation. The decision was made in an effort to prevent collisions and other accidents that could occur due to unseasonably thin snow coverage, limited open terrain and the crowds expected the week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve weekend.
