Cabin Fever Days and Barstool Ski Races this weekend

The annual Cabin Fever Days and World Famous Barstool Ski Races return Feb. 9-11.  

Many events occur at multiple locations throughout Martin City, Hungry Horse and Coram. Martin City is the location of the World Famous Barstool Ski Races on Saturday, with several kids' events and snowshoe softball. 

Cabin Fever Days organizer Steve Paugh says the barstool ski races down Sugar Hill are an “edgy and competitive” sport. Racers come from all over to compete including Canada. 

“It’s a two-person race,” Paugh said. “The winner of the race is sometimes the winner who didn’t fall off. If you fall down when you’re going down the hill, then you get up and you push yourself. You’re never out of it until somebody crosses the finish line.”

Participants often wear costumes while using barstools on skis to make it down the hill. Also, some creative entries provide extra entertainment during the races like the band Playing in Traffic which performs while racing down the hill. 

All-access souvenir buttons are sold for $5 at the entrance to Cabin Fever Days in Martin City and are required to enter all events. 

Free shuttles make continuous loops through Hungry Horse, Martin City and Coram on Saturday. 

Cabin Fever Days is the annual fundraiser for first responders of Bad Rock Canyon. Proceeds benefit the Martin City Volunteer Fire Department, Hungry Horse Volunteer Fire Department and Canyon Quick Response Unit.
