Bulldogs place four at wrestling divisionals

Whitefish had four placers at the Western A Divisional Wrestling Tournament on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 2-3 in Hamilton, including one champion.

Landree Aurand won the 132-pound bracket, winning by fall in the quarterfinals and semifinals and picking up a 4-2 decision over Frenchtown’s Cole Johnson.

At 160 pounds, Henry Bennetts placed fourth, moving through the bracket with a pin and a major decision. Bennetts lost via decision in the semifinals but bounced back in the consolation semifinals with a 13-6 victory. In the third-place match, Bennetts had to post a medical forfeit.

Whitefish’s Sam Akey placed eighth at 285 pounds.

In the girls' divisional tournament, Samantha Bennetts placed third at 120 pounds. Bennetts pinned her first two opponents before a tight semifinal loss. In the consolation semifinals, she picked up a major decision and scored a 37-second pin in the third-place match over Ronan’s Giselle Barron Valenzuela.
