Whitefish speech and debate back on top of C-Falls rivalry

The Whitefish speech and debate team competed against some of the state’s biggest teams at the Western Regional tournament in Kalispell last weekend.

“We feel good about having proved our mettle, especially with a tournament win in Policy Debate,” said Sara Mueller, Whitefish speech and debate coach.

Whitefish took the reign back over from Columbia Falls, who bested Whitefish at last week’s tournament in Hamilton.

The next competition will be Jan. 10-11 in Corvallis.

“We are excited to head into the break with some momentum in preparation for a busy January ending with the MHSA Divisional and State Tournaments,” Mueller said.

Individual top scorers were: Policy Debate: 1. Jake Dunker and Bjorn Bungener, 5. Vana Fortune and Ethan Hunsaker; Extemporaneous: 8. Mason Loeffler; Informative: 4. Scarlet Burke; Memorized Public Address: 4. Unity Loveless; Original Oratory: 7. Astir Pulsifer; Program Oral Interp: 5. Iona Sarraille; and Duo Interpretation: 7. Scarlet Burke and Unity Loveless.

Sweeps: 1. Whitefish, 2. Columbia Falls, 3. East Helena
