Girls hockey team scores silver in Calgary
The Glacier Hockey Association 10U girls hockey team competed in Calgary last weekend at WickFest, a huge annual festival that showcases girls in hockey.
The Glacier Avalanche girls played in the U11 Bronze Division. They scored 31 goals and conceded 12 during pool play games. They finished with a 3-1-0 record which earned them a spot in the championship game.
They faced a very strong and experienced Las Vegas Jr Golden Knights team, left everything on the ice and came home with a silver medal.
“From opening ceremonies, clinics, games, swimming and team bonding, the weekend was an unforgettable experience for all the girls,” Coach Lini Reading said. “Coach Aly Wells and I are proud of the girls for their outstanding effort, improvement and teamwork.”
Team members were Fynlee Tveidt, Rowan Berney, Brooke and Taylor Kalgren, Saylor Hindman, Kassidy, Zoey and Marley Coleman, Aly Boksich, Evie, Carinna, Alvah and Juliet Wainwright.
Reading said team manager Susie Kalgren put in a tremendous amount of work getting the team into WickFest and Matt Kalgren was helpful as a coach on the bench during games.
WickFest was created by Hayley Wickenheiser, six-time Olympian and gold medalist over ten years ago to help advance girls hockey.
