Logan Health’s Run Cedar Creek to benefit suicide prevention in the Flathead Valley

| August 21, 2024 1:00 AM

Logan Health’s third annual Run Cedar Creek event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 21, in Columbia Falls. This year, race registration fees will directly benefit the Nate Chute Foundation and suicide prevention efforts in the Flathead Valley. The event will include a full marathon, half marathon, 10K and a 5K, providing something for runners of all kinds.

This initiative is part of Billings Clinic – Logan Health’s state-wide suicide prevention campaign, “Let’s Talk About It,” which aims to educate and empower Montanans about the importance of open and honest conversation regarding mental health.  Montana has some of the highest suicide rates in the nation, so encouraging discussions about mental health struggles and reducing the stigma associated with mental health is crucial. By raising awareness and breaking the stigma surrounding suicide, the campaign strives to create a supportive environment where individuals feel comfortable seeking help. Participants are encouraged to pledge their commitment to speaking out against suicide and advocating for those in need.

“In Montana, the stigma surrounding mental health remains a significant barrier to accessing mental health services,” said Kevin Abel, co-CEO of Logan Health. “By participating in this event, runners are not only taking steps towards their own health but also standing up against the stigma and supporting behavioral health services. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those affected by mental illness.”

In its third year, Run Cedar Creek has become the premier running event in the Flathead Valley.

“We’re gearing up for an incredible day of community, camaraderie and healthy competition,” says Krista Rufenach, event director at Logan Health. “Run Cedar Creek is not just a race, it’s an experience that brings people together for a greater cause.”

Whether you’re a seasoned marathoner or a first-time runner, Run Cedar Creek offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while enjoying a day filled with community and healthy living.
