Whitefish Workforce Assistance Program provides vital support to community
The Whitefish Workforce Assistance Program launched in January, 2024, and has made significant strides in supporting the local workforce by providing rental assistance.
Funded with $200,000 from the city of Whitefish and supported by the Whitefish Chamber of Commerce, Explore Whitefish, the Foley Family Charitable Foundation, and various local businesses, the program aims to prevent displacement and offer housing opportunities for those who work in Whitefish but live outside the community.
The program has seen a total of 63 applicants, 40 of whom, who represent 81 individuals, were approved.
Daniel Sidder, executive director of Housing Whitefish said residents have expressed gratitude for the assistance provided through the program that is serving families with an average household income of a little over $40,000, or about 57% of the area median income. The average rent for those participating is $1,667.
“Thank you for helping low-income families like mine survive in this economy,” said one participant. “ We couldn't be more grateful.”
Twenty-five landlords receive rental assistance payments which average $325. Sixteen single parent families are currently involved and 58 local employers are represented across all applicants.
Sidder said as the Whitefish Workforce Assistance Program continues to grow, it remains dedicated to supporting the local workforce and ensuring that those who contribute to the community can also afford to live within it. The program is a testament to the power of community collaboration and the impact of targeted assistance.
The application period will open again on Monday, Aug. 5 with applications due on Sept. 15..
