6th Annual Hit the Trail Challenge
Explore and log your miles on the Whitefish Trail this May to get outside, be healthy and contribute to preserving our local trails!
Join us for the 6th Annual Hit the Trail Challenge this May! This month-long community event is aimed at collectively exploring and celebrating the Whitefish Trail by running, hiking and riding as much as possible.
For every mile you cover on the Whitefish Trail and report to Whitefish Legacy Partners, $1 will be donated to support the trail. Throughout the month, we will tally up all the miles and share weekly updates to celebrate everyone’s achievements. Plus, there are awards and raffle prizes up for grabs for those who reach milestones on the trail.
May is the perfect time to hit the trails after a long winter. With the larch budding and mud season behind us, the trail is in great shape and ready for your participation. Let this Challenge inspire you to embrace an active and healthy lifestyle by hiking, walking, running, biking, or horseback riding on the trail all month long!
Our goal this year is to make the Hit the Trail Challenge the biggest yet. Last year, community participants in the Challenge logged an incredible 31,790 miles in 31 days to help support trail maintenance and operations. The Muldown Elementary School Teachers proved to be the top performing workplace team, logging over 400 miles and securing the coveted Shelldon the Turtle trophy.
Whether you participate as an individual, join a workplace team, or rally your school, community group or non-profit, there is a way for everyone to get involved.
2024 Whitefish Trail Hit the Trail Challenge sponsors include IV Element, Explore Whitefish, Logan Health Whitefish, Vibrant Roots, Park Side Credit Union, BlueCross BlueShield of Montana, Glacier Distilling, and The Wave. And a special thanks to our volunteer trail patrol and trail crew for their invaluable help in getting the trails ready for this Challenge!
Sign up and log your miles this May at whitefishlegacy.org/events. Miles are logged using an online form, by submitting a paper log sheet, or by joining our Hit the Trail Challenge Strava Club.
“The Whitefish Trail and surrounding open lands are one of our community’s greatest free health and wellness resources. Our Hit the Trail Challenge encourages the community to improve physical and emotional health through outdoor recreation while supporting our local trails and reconnecting in nature after a long winter," said Cynthia Ingelfinger, Director of Development, Whitefish Legacy Partners.
