Whitefish Theatre Company receives National Endowment for the Arts grant
The Whitefish Theatre Company is pleased to announce it has been approved for a $10,000 Challenge America award from the National Endowment of the Arts to support two live performances of Jesús Muñoz Flamenco, an electrifying dance and music ensemble. There will be one evening performance for the public and one free outreach performance in the afternoon for Flathead Valley elementary students. The Whitefish Theatre Company’s project is among 257 projects across America totaling $2,570,000 that were selected to receive fiscal year 2024 funding in the Challenge America grant category.
“The NEA is delighted to announce this grant to the Whitefish Theatre Company, which is helping contribute to the strength and well-being of the arts sector and local community,” said National Endowment for the Arts Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD. “We are pleased to be able to support this community and help create an environment where all people have the opportunity to live artful lives.”
Jesús Muñoz Flamenco is a riveting ensemble of international dancers and musicians who explore dynamic, visionary movements and sounds inspired by cante flamenco or “flamenco singing”. Jesús Muñoz founded the company in Albuquerque, New Mexico with a passion to create original, visceral, and innovative performances fusing his American roots with traditional Spanish Flamenco influence. The company has formed a physical, visual, and sonic vocabulary that intersects Flamenco with Latin, Jazz and Hip-hop, reflecting the experiences and backgrounds of company artists and audiences. The result is a bold transcendence of ancient rhythm and tradition, evoking deep emotion and profound artistry that Jesús Muñoz Flamenco shares with audiences around the globe. Tickets are currently on sale for this night of world-class music and dance on May 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.
“With the generous support of the National Endowment of the Arts, the Whitefish Theatre Company is thrilled to be able to bring Jesús Muñoz Flamenco to the Flathead Valley,” said WTC Executive Director Jen Asebrook. “Not only will the evening concert be an exciting show of exceptional world music and dance for our community, but it is inspiring to be able to offer a free outreach concert to local students who may not have the means or opportunity to see this type of unique performance.”
