Montana Poet Laureate stops at Whitefish library

| April 10, 2024 12:00 AM

Montana’s Poet Laureate Chris La Tray visits the Whitefish Community Library on Friday, April 12 at 6 p.m. as the last program in the library’s “Winter Writers Series.”

A Métis storyteller and Little Shell Chippewa member, La Tray received the Montana Book Award for his book, “One-Sentence Journal: Short Poems and Essays from the World at Large,” and has been traveling Montana extensively as the Poet Laureate for the biennial 2023-2024.

La Tray will read from his work and discuss with the audience his approach to the practice of poetry. La Tray’s program description on the Humanities Montana website states, “…Poetry becomes another means for telling and sharing stories: La Tray’s programs exist to remind people that their stories matter, that they are the only ones who can properly tell them, and that poetry, however it is defined, is a beautiful means for doing so.”

All Winter Writers Series programs are free and open to the public. No registration is necessary. Programs are sponsored by Humanities Montana and the Whitefish Library Association.
