Bulldog tennis opens season with team wins
While the week was marred with bad weather, Whitefish tennis did make it out on the court and pick up a total of four team victories.
Against Ronan, the boys won 6-1, and the girls swept the Maidens 7-0. Whitefish’s Jack Oehlerich won his No. 2 singles matchup against Toby Cantlon 6-1, 6-0, while No. 4 singles player Logan Hyland won his match 6-1, 6-0 as well. No. 3 singles player Walt Seigmund swept his foe Hayden Fussell 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action, since Ronan didn’t have a No. 1 or 2 doubles team, Mason Kelch and Dane Hunt defeated fellow Whitefish doubles team Buren Brust and Jesse Burrough 6-2, 6-4. Cole Moses and Aaron Anderson also won their doubles matchup against the No. 3 Ronan team 6-0, 6-1.
On the girls side, Whitefish’s Alicia Lusko defeated Ronan’s No. 1 singles play Sara McConnell 6-0, 6-1. Camry Kelch and Liesl Brust also won their singles matchups as well.
For the girls doubles, Maggie Mercert and Ainsley Scott combined to win their No. 1 matchup 6-0, 6-1. No. 2 doubles team of Mazo and Vine downed their Ronan foe 6-1, 6-0. In No. 3 doubles action, Lizzy Holien and Ainsley Grubb combined to win 6-2, 6-1.
On the girls side, Ronan’s singles players Sara McConnell and Amy Snyder won one game apiece, while in the No. 3 doubles matchup Tillman and Brown fought well but fell to Whitefish’s Lizzy Holien and Ainsley Grubb 6-2, 6-1.
Against Bigfork, Whitefish swept both matchups in boys and girls.
Oehlerich won his No. 1 singles matchup over Cole Carlson 6-0, 6-3, while Owen Erickson won his No. 2 Owen Erickson defeated Dane Carlson 6-1, 6-3. Seigmund won the No. 3 matchup in a battle, 6-3, 6-2 while Hyland defeated Juan Childs 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles action, Whitefish’s Kelch and Hunt defeated Bigfork’s No. 1 tandem of Dylan Porrevechio and Seth Christiaens 6-0, 6-1. Burrough and Brust downed Bigfork’s No 2 doubles squad in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep. In No. 3 action, Cole Moses and Aaron Anderson defeated Bigfork’s Kimbal Richmond and Gunnar Busic 6-1, 6-2.
For the girls, Lusko had an epic battle in No. 1 singles but downed Bigfork’s Tessa Troyuer 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. Brust won the No. 2 singles matchup 6-2, 6-2 while Grubb and Dessi Young won their singles matchups as well.
In doubles action, Mercer and Scott combined again for a No. 1 doubles win, downing Bigfork’s Amanda Leonard and Anika Ranson 6-0, 6-1. Kelch and Marzo defeated Bigfork’s No. 2 squad 6-0, 6-1 and Gretel Vince and Delila Vine completed the sweep with a No. 3 doubles win by a score of 6-2, 6-0.
