Undefeated Beavers cruise over Bulldogs, 45-7
Coming off an emotional rivalry win against Columbia Falls, the schedule for Whitefish served up undefeated Dillon in Western A football action.
The visiting Bulldogs fell behind 36-0 in the first half and suffered their fourth defeat of the year 45-7 on Friday, Sept. 22.
"Dillon is a well-rounded team that took away what we wanted to do," Whitefish Head Coach Brett Bollweg said. "They did a nice job of executing their game plan."
Dillon jumped out to a 19-0 lead in the first quarter with a short touchdown run and two scoring passes. In the second stanza, the Beavers added two touchdown runs for the 32-0 advantage.
Whitefish found the endzone as senior Mason Kelch threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to junior CJ Thew. Kicker Ryder Barinowski added the extra point.
In the third quarter, a long scoring pass and a 13-yard touchdown pass bookended Dillon's scoring. Whitefish finished with 175 yards of offense, including 159 through the ground. Whitefish Quarterback Carson Gillick was 7-13 for 82 yards, while Raymond Zonich was 5-for-7 passing for 50 yards.
Threw finished with two catches for 48 yards, and Whitefish teammate Calvin Eisenbarth caught two passes for 33 yards.
Whitefish fell to 1-4 on the season. The Bulldogs will play at 3-2 Bigfork next Friday at 7 p.m. It will be the first time since moving back to Class A that the Vikings will be taking on Whitefish.
"Bigfork is a really good team that we need to be ready for," Bollweg said. "They love to play downhill, and we need to be ready for that challenge. I'm excited to have them back in Class A and to play another really quality opponent who is close to home."
