Bulldogs defense shines In loss to Corvallis
One score in the first quarter proved to be the final score as Corvallis came away with the 7-0 Western A victory against Whitefish on Friday, Sept. 8.
The loss dropped Whitefish to 3-0 on the season.
"We played well defensively," Whitefish Coach Brett Bollweg said. "Our linebackers really stepped up to the challenge and are growing every week. Henry Bennetts had his best game I've seen him play, and the guys really took ownership of the plan and performed."
Corvallis scored on a five-yard touchdown run by Charlie Chavez in the first quarter but was limited by the Whitefish defense to just 135 yards total.
The gritty defensive battle saw the Bulldogs gain 114 yards on offense. Quarterback Mason Kelch was 15-for-35 for 72 yards.
"We are going to continue to fight," Bollweg said. "We are going to continue to work towards success. We have to earn it, and that comes with a lot of work, but our guys are going to continue to battle."
Whitefish will now change its focus to a big rivalry game against Columbia Falls, who also lost last week, at home next week on Friday, September 15 at 7 p.m.
"I told our guys that these are the best games, the best weeks," Bollweg said. "There is nothing like playing your crosstown rivals. We definitely need to be at our best this Friday. Columbia Falls has a really good team. I'm excited to watch our guys compete."
