Bulldogs torch Jackets for homecoming win
The Whitefish offense had a banner performance, and the Bulldogs won their second consecutive game in a 62-14 Western A football victory over Stevensville on homecoming night Friday, Oct. 6.
Quarterback Carson Gulick went 19-of-28 through the air for Whitefish, throwing for 232 yards and three touchdowns. The game was decided in the second quarter as the Bulldogs scored 28 points for a 34-7 halftime lead.
Stevensville (1-6) found the endzone first on a 35-yard fumble return, but that would be the lone highlight for most of the matchup as the floodgates opened up.
Gulick responded with a 30-yard touchdown pass to Jesse Burrough, then an 18-yard scoring pass to Carson Krack. Cole Moses then ran the ball in from 16 yards out, and Mason Kelch caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Gulick.
Kelch also returned a fumble for 13 yards for the Bulldogs’ halftime leader. In the third quarter, the scoring continued as Whitefish notched 21 points in the stanza.
While playing defense, Gulick returned an interception for 23 yards and a score. Brady Howke then had a 15-yard touchdown run, and Bulldog Jesse Eisenbarth ran an interception back 57 yards in the fourth quarter for the final Whitefish score.
Stevensville scored a cosmetic 14-yard touchdown, but the game was well on its way to improving the Bulldogs’ record to 3-4 overall and 3-3 in Western A play.
Krack finished the game with three catches for 59 yards, and Dane Hunt had five grabs for 57. Whitefish’s three defensive touchdowns outscored Stevensville alone.
Whitefish will play at Polson on Friday, Oct. 13, in an important Western A matchup late in the season, with kickoff at 7 p.m.
