At its first home meet of the season under sunny skies, the Whitefish boys track team took the team victory with four event wins; the girls placed fifth in the meet.

As a team the boys scored 117 points to best second-place Bigfork with 99. Havre and Columbia Falls took third and fourth place respectively.

Leading the Bulldogs was junior Carson Krack who won the 300 meter hurdles and the high jump; Krack also took second place in the long jump with a PR of 20-7.25. CFalls’ Jace Duval won the long jump with a PR of 21-1, both marks are in the top seven in Class A.

For the 300 hurdles, Krack had a time of 42.32 and he had a personal best in the high jump, clearing 6-0.

“[Krack] was 0.4 off qualifying for state in the 300 hurdles which is great, he’s making incremental improvements. But also, he qualified in the high jump after only high jumping for two weeks and qualified in the long jump, that’s one of the events we’ve been waiting for him to pop a big one,” said Whitefish boys track coach Willie Roche.

Whitefish had another solid performance from its distance crew, led by a win in the 3200 from sophomore Ethan Amick. He ran the race in 10:44.13 and teammate Ruedi Steiner took second. In the 1600 meters, Nate Ingelfinger led a Bulldog crew of four runners. Ingelfinger had a season-best time of 4:40.55 to take third behind two athletes from Havre. Whitefish runners Simon Douglas, Steiner and Amick claimed places fourth through sixth.

In the short relay, Whitefish scored another win. The four runners combined for a time of 45.35 to best Havre and Bigfork who were less than a second behind in second and third respectively.

“The 4X100 competed really well… Scott Dalen was getting pressured on the back stretch and he put it into a different gear that we haven’t seen from Scott all year. That’s the competitive fire that we want going into May.”

Bulldog senior thrower Kitar Olsen had a competitive day in the sun as well. Olsen threw a personal best of 134-09 in discus, about 20 feet further than his last PR mark, earning second place to Polson’s Astin Brown. In shot put, Olsen put up another PR (41-6.5) for third place.

Whitefish junior Brooke Zetooney’s sprint sweep led the Lady Bulldogs on Saturday. Zetooney placed first in the 100, 200 and 400. She got PRs in the 200 (25.79) and the 400 (58.57).

Zetooney also anchored the girls winning short relay that neared the sub-50 second mark with 50.07 — the time is the fasted in Class A thus far this season.

“This weekend was super impressive, awesome to be able to come out and compete in some warm weather — warm weather really seemed to reflect in some times,” said Whitefish girls track head coach Matt Beckwith.

Additionally, Whitefish junior Maeve Ingelfinger continued her success from the week prior in the mile race. She took first place with a time of 5:24, just two seconds ahead of Columbia Falls’ star distance runner Siri Erickson. She passed Erickson on the final lap.

Ingelfinger also won the 3200 meter race, putting up a PR of 12:50.82.

“Maeve Ingelfinger continues to impress us in the distance races, she’s just starting to get a feel for what she’s doing there and boy times are dropping fast,” Beckwith said.

Additionally, Bulldog junior Hailey Ells placed second to teammate Zetooney in the 400, Zetooney took fifth in the shot put and Drew Steele threw 92-01 in discus for fifth. Norah Schmidt cleared 8-06 in pole vault to tie for third and in the triple jump Schmidt placed second with a mark of 33-03.

This week Whitefish was scheduled to host a dual with Columbia Falls on Tuesday after press time. Then the team will head to Legends Stadium in Kalispell for the Archie Roe Invite on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
