Muhlfeld wins Best Presentation Award at Montana Fisheries Conference
John Muhlfeld, Principal Hydrologist of River Design Group and Mayor of Whitefish, won the prestigious best professional presentation award at the 2023 Montana Chapter of the American Fisheries Society (AFS) Meeting in Butte last month.
Muhlfeld’s presentation entitled, “Rattlesnake Creek Dam Removal Project – A Glimpse Into the Post-Dam River and Floodplain Environment”, recapped a multi-year river restoration project near Missoula that resulted in the removal of Rattlesnake Creek Dam in 2022. The presentation provided an overview of the project history, the design process and a glimpse into the post-dam river and floodplain environments.
Montana AFS is the oldest professional society in North America dealing with natural resources and focuses on promoting conservation, education, and scientific advancement of fish and fisheries across Montana. The annual meeting was held in Butte from Feb. 21-23 and was attended by over 150 fisheries professionals across Montana and beyond.
