Incumbent Whitefish city councilors have all filed to retain their seats in the upcoming municipal election, while four challengers also filed.

The filing deadline for candidates was Monday, June 19. Municipal elections will be held Nov. 7.

City Councilor incumbents Frank Sweeney, Steve Qunell and Rebecca Norton are on the ballot. The four challengers include Nathan Dugan, James Ramlow, Nancy Schuber and Kent Taylor.

Mayor John Muhlfeld is running unopposed, seeking his fourth term.

Whitefish city councilors and the mayor do not receive a salary.

The Whitefish Municipal Judge is also up for election and receives a salary of $89,250. Caitlin Overland is running unopposed in the upcoming election. In late 2021, Overland was appointed to serve as the new municipal court judge following the death of Judge William Hileman, now she is seeking re-election.

Councilors, the mayor and the judge all serve four-year terms.
