Multi-vehicle accident on Highway 2, one dead, at least three injured
An eastbound semi truck hauling a load of lumber flipped over on Highway 2 in a multi-vehicle fatal accident about 4 p.m. Monday just outside Coram.
The fully loaded semi braked abruptly for reasons that weren’t immediately clear.
The truck flipped over and went off the highway, but the truck driver was apparently not seriously injured.
Two people involved in the accident said it happened so fast they didn’t know exactly what happened, but two vehicles were crushed in the resulting collision.
One person died at the scene and another one in the other crushed vehicle was transported to the hospital via ALERT helicopter.
All told four vehicles, an RV and the semi were involved in the accident.
Coram-West Glacier, Hungry Horse, Martin City and Columbia Falls firefighters all responded to the scene, as well as Three Rivers Ambulance, Flathead County Sheriffs Deputies and Montana Highway Patrol.
The crash is under investigation. The accident had traffic backed up for miles in each direction.
