Human remains discovered in woods north of Polebridge

Human remains were found in the wilderness north of Polebridge on Thursday, according to the Flathead County Sheriff's Office.

The remains, discovered near Tepee Lake northwest of Ford, were taken by the Flathead County Coroner’s Office to the Montana State Crime Lab in Missoula for autopsy.

Authorities were not able to confirm the identity of the remains.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks assisted in the investigation and confirmed scavenging by a bear after the victim was deceased.

After consultation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the state will take no further action regarding the bear.
