The Bulldogs had a tough loss Saturday night after falling behind early in a road game against Browning.

Whitefish lost 65-40 and fell to 2-9 on the season.

Whitefish head coach Alex Gonzalez says the team came out slow to start and it was hard to recover after only scoring 6 points in the first quarter.

“We came out flat, we missed some really easy shots to start the game and I think that was like a domino effect,” Gonzalez said. “I felt like they weren't playing to their capability.”

For Whitefish, Jack Sears and Mason Genovese led the way in scoring with 10 points each. Mason Kelch had 9 points and CJ Thew scored seven for a boost off the bench. Gonzalez expressed he is impressed with Thew’s performance as a sophomore.

“CJ brought a lot of energy to the game and he helped a tremendous amount because he played so much bigger than (he is)... he just wants it so bad,” Gonzalez said. “But everyone needs to be on the same page.”

Browning (7-4 overall) was led by Brayds Vielle with 19 points and Maurice Redhorn III with 15.

Whitefish looks ahead to two games this week that are makeup games from cancelations earlier in the season. The Bulldogs were set to play Stillwater Christian on Tuesday after press time. Then the Dogs host Hamilton this weekend for a matchup with a tough Southwest A team.

“If we play to our capabilities I think we’re going to give them a tough game,” Gonzalez said.

Whitefish will play Hamilton at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Whitefish High School.
