Wrestling competes at Rocky Mountain Classic tourney, two duals
Bulldog wrestling was few in numbers last week, but those on the mat continue to do well.
Whitefish took four wrestlers to the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic in Missoula last weekend. The memorial tournament is one of the largest in the state and features schools from all Montana classes as well as schools from Idaho and Washington.
Bulldog Kai Nash wrestling in the 205-pound division, earned the most points for Whitefish at the tournament. Nash won his opening match by pinning Bozeman’s Oliver Huntley in 3:03. He fell in round two but came back to win a consolation round against Browning’s Ashton Granados. Nash lost in another consolation match which ended his run in the tournament.
Whitefish wrestler Henry Bennetts also scored points for his team at 160 pounds. Bennetts was defeated in his first match but came roaring back to win two consolation matches to stay in the tournament. He pinned Ethan Preston of Missoula Hellgate and won by tech fall over Chance Bockman of St. Ignatius. In his fourth match, Butte’s Trey Hansen defeated Bennets on a 10-5 decision.
Kadin Brown of Whitefish competed at 113 pounds. He went 2-2 at the tournament, winning his opening match by a technical fall, but was narrowly defeated by Coeur d’Alene’s Tanner George on an 8-7 decision. Brown won in a consolation match to stay in the tournament but then fell to Mead’s Billy Weisgerber.
Jackson Dorvall also competed for Whitefish in the tournament but didn’t get a win on the mat.
On Friday Whitefish competed in duals at Polson. Though the Bulldogs lost in the team scores due to giving up too many forfeits at several weight classes, Whitefish won the majority of the matches.
Against Lake City, Dorvall, Bennetts and Nash all recorded wins while Brown was pinned. Against Polson, Brown, Bennetts and Nash all pinned their opponents while Dorvall was defeated by Polson.
On the girls side, Sam Bennetts competed in the Hellgate Girls Wrestling Invitational on Saturday. Bennetts opened the tournament with a pin, winning over Columbia Falls’ Paris Jerome. In the next round, Bennetts fell to Ronan’s Juliette Cheff. She received a bye in a consolation round and in her third match she lost by a 4-1 decision to Frenchtown’s Rebel Montanez.
The Bulldogs are back in action this week at the Class A Duals in Lewistown on Friday and Saturday.
