Glacier Glide cross country ski race

The Glacier Nordic Club will host the Glacier Glide races on Saturday, Jan. 7. The Glide has been held in Whitefish at the Glacier Nordic Center at the Whitefish Lake Golf Course since 1983.

This year, races are on the north course. Register early. All prices increase by $5 for same-day registration The first race begins at 9:30 a.m. and registration closes 30 minutes prior to each race.

Races are scheduled so participants will have the opportunity to race both skate and classic with separate awards for each. Events include a 1K freestyle race (classic or skate), 3.5K and 10K skate and classic races, and a free kids’ cookie scramble for children aged 7 and under.

The Pursuit Viking Challenge involves completing the 10k Classic and 10k Skate, and calculating the overall combined time for the top 3 winners. The Junior Pursuit Viking Challenge is completing the 3.5k classic and 3.5k skate.

The winner of the Viking Pursuit Challenge gets a free entry into the 2024 American Birkebeiner 50K.

The price for all races includes a post-race lunch of chili and mac and cheese. Non-racers can buy lunch for $7.

This race is a fluoro-free event and is part of the new Montana Nordic Cup series. Awards will be given to overall race winners and ribbons to youth in first through sixth place.

Winter Trails Day

Winter Trails Day is an event hosted by the Glacier Nordic Club to encourage the community to come skiing. There are two dates and locations for the event which features free skiing, free lessons with rentals and refreshments available.

On Jan. 15, the free skiing event will be at Meadow Lake Nordic Trails at Meadow Lake Golf Course in Columbia Falls.

On Jan. 22, the event is in Whitefish at the Glacier Nordic Center at Whitefish Lake Golf Course
