Whitefish girls take down Eureka in final game before break
Whitefish weathered a Eureka comeback in the fourth quarter, and the Lady Bulldogs came away with a 39-35 victory over their nonconference foe on Tuesday, Dec. 20.
“We played good in the fourth quarter although we were unable to connect from the free throw line,” Whitefish head coach Bob Bolam said. “It was a very poor night for us from the line. We were able to handle the pressure they put on us, and they started to hit some outside shots to keep the game close.”
Bailey Smith led Whitefish with 14 points, including a couple 3-pointers, while Jude Perry added 8 points and an impressive 16 rebounds.
“I was happy to see some production from our bench with Camry Kelch netting 6 points,” Bolam said.
Trailing by one in the first quarter, the Lady Bulldogs went on a 10-2 run in the second to take the 19-12 halftime lead. They expanded that lead to nine points in the third and then shook off a Eureka surge in the final stanza.
“At the beginning of the game, we were rushing our offense and taking quick shots,” Bolam said. “As the second quarter came along, our offense settled in, and we started hitting some shots as well as getting steals from our defense as we began to put some pressure on Eureka.”
Carmy Kelch added 6 points to Whitefish’s scorebook.
The Lady Bulldogs improved to 3-3 on the year before taking a break for the holidays.
“We had a good scoring night from Bailey Smith with 14 points, including a couple of 3s, and Jude Perry had a good night... I was happy to see some production from our bench (also).”
