A benefit concert called the “Gift of Song” has been organized by local volunteers in order to raise money for new instruments and essential repairs for the music program at Lincoln County High School in Eureka.

The concert is scheduled for Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. at Glacier Lanes in Columbia Falls.

“As we approach the holiday season, we have asked ourselves what, out of any gift, could spread the most joy in the year to come and keep on giving. Our answer is music — and the life-changing impact that learning to play an instrument can have on a child,” organizers said in a statement.

The concert is put together by a group of individuals including Ash Krost, the main organizer and the bass player, and siblings Dakota Adams and Sequoia Adams who live near Eureka.

The group says making music accessible to young people can mean the discovery of hidden talents, the development of creative minds and a way to express themselves and connect with others that will last a lifetime.

Many of the instruments in the music program at Lincoln County High School are broken, with necessary equipment lacking. That makes it difficult for the students to learn to play. The group is hoping to raise enough money for amp and wind instrument repairs, and hopefully, some new guitars.

The benefit will include live music from SurfBat, bowling and a raffle in the spirit of supporting young, future musicians.

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the raffle will go to the LCHS music program.

“We are also grateful to accept any donations of working instruments in good condition to be given directly to the LCHS Music Program, or any other support to help us make a lasting impact in the lives of these students,” organizers said.
