NVMS presents inaugural concert of youth symphony program
The Flathead Valley Youth Symphony (FVYS) will present “Sounds of the Symphony,” the inaugural concert of this new youth music collective, on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m.
Held at the Flathead High School Auditorium in Kalispell, the concert will be conducted by Eric Holdhusen and hosted by North Valley Music School.
The new program provides an accessible symphony orchestra experience for all students in the valley, including homeschooled students who previously had no other options to ply their talents or interests. Interested musicians had to apply and audition to be part of the program. These talented youth musicians will perform pieces by Beethoven, Tchaikovsky and Dvorak.
Tickets are $10 (suggested donation) to benefit the NVMS Scholarship Fund. Students and children are free. Tickets will be available at the door and can also be purchased in advance at https://bit.ly/FVYSDec23
“We are so excited to support the Flathead Valley Youth Symphony,” says NVMS Director of Opportunity Jessica Shaw. “It includes string, brass, woodwind and percussion instruments, an important distinction that sets the symphony apart from existing high school programs that focus exclusively on string ensembles. NVMS hopes the community attends to show their support of the efforts of these young musicians.”
For students who want to participate in the spring semester of the FVYS, information on how to apply and audition can be found at www.northvalleymusicschool.org
