Bulldog speech and debate takes second in Frenchtown
The Whitefish speech and debate team notched another second-place finish for the season.
Over the weekend the team competed in Frenchtown which made for a long day with the extra travel time.
“With a 4:30 (a.m.) leave time, this tournament challenged our grit and resolve and required us to support each other to keep energy up throughout a long day,” said Whitefish speech and debate coach Sara Mueller. “We are immensely proud of how the students carried themselves while competing.”
The Bulldogs took second in sweepstakes to Columbia Falls; Frenchtown was third.
Whitefish had several placers including Iona Sarraille taking second in impromptu and Avery Sorensen placing second in extemporaneous. The team of Alex Losee and Vana Fortune also placed second in policy debate.
Whitefish had a slew of competitors place fourth in various categories and in memorized public address, Unity Loveless was third.
Mueller said the debate side of the team had an especially strong tournament with a second and fourth place in policy debate, fourth in public forum debate and fourth in Lincoln-Douglas debate.
“These students spent much of the week preparing for new topics and bringing new competitors aboard,” she said. “This meet gave us great feedback we are excited to capitalize on.”
The speech team will compete again this weekend in a two-day tournament in Kalispell.
