WTC holds auditions for ‘Kalamazoo’

| August 30, 2023 12:00 AM

The Whitefish Theatre Co. is holding auditions for its first Black Curtain theatre production of the 2023-2024 season.

Auditions for “Kalamazoo” will be held on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish. Arrive early to fill out an audition application, fill out a waiver form, and review the script. Enter at the north side of the building near WTC’s parking lot and conference room.

When Peg, a 70-something, Irish Catholic bird lover meets Irving, a 70-something Jewish, metal detector-toting East Coaster on an online dating site, it feels like love at first click. But after their crazy margarita-filled first date, complete with body shots and morning-after tattoos, Peg and Irving find that they still have a little aging to do if they want to forget their past and move forward into a future together. Winner of the Riva Shiner Comedy Award, “Kalamazoo” is a romantic comedy about life’s second act and learning you’re never too old to be young.

The cast is comprised of one woman and one man, ages 60 and older. No experience or preparation is necessary to audition. Pages from the script will be provided. The script is available at valley public libraries.

Malcolm Sharbutt is the director of this production. As a Black Curtain show, the actors will remain on book during performances and there will be minimal costumes and set. There will be approximately nine rehearsals and one technical rehearsal on Sept. 22. There are two performances over one weekend on Sept. 23 and 24.
