Whitefish tourism promotion spending

| April 19, 2023 1:00 AM

The Whitefish Convention and Visitor Bureau is spending 1.2 million per year on tourism promotion. The "optional" or "voluntary" 1% CSF that appears on your bills at restaurants, lodging, and car rentals generates 900,000.00 per year. It is difficult to have it removed and if you ask a server "What is this CSF?" they will most likely tell you it goes toward housing. Actually, only 6% of the 1.2 million goes to the Housing Whitefish organization.

Explore Whitefish — the Whitefish Convention and Visitor Bureau has 501c3 status, a charitable organization. Why would we allow a charity to impose a fee on our bills? Most of us want to pick our own charities. If Whitefish City Council would repeal the 1% fee, the visitor bureau would still receive $300,000 in state bed tax money. This seems like plenty to support sustainable tourism. Please contact our Whitefish City Council to stop this tourism promotion spending. Enough is enough!
