The Whitefish girls track team junior captains Brooke Zetooney and Hailey Ells picked up right where they left off last year in the Bulldogs’ first two meets of the new season.

At both the Flathead Triangular and the Bigfork Invite last week, Zetooney won the 100 meter race with her fastest time (12.83 seconds) coming in Bigfork. Ells came in second to her teammate in the 100 in Bigfork and won the 400 as Zetooney placed second in the event. At Flathead, Ells took first in the 200 meter.

Sophomore teammate Rachel Wilmot placed second in both the 100 meter and 200 at Flathead and third behind Zetooney and Ells in the 100 in Bigfork. The Bulldogs’ short relay, 4X100, featured Zetooney, Ells, Wilmot and junior Bailey Smith for a scorching time of 51 seconds, best in Class A thus far, earned in Bigfork.

Also in Bigfork, Smith had a PR in the javelin (98-04) for sixth place. Another great start was Whitefish’s Norah Schmidt who took first place in pole vault, clearing 8-9. Bulldog Morgan Grube placed second in the 1600 with a time of 6:08.68.

As a team, the Whitefish girls earned 81 points for second place to Bigfork which had 94 points.

On the boys side, Nate Ingelfinger led the way for the Bulldogs in Bigfork with wins in the 800 and 1600 meter distance races. The distance crew performed well, as predicted in preseason, with Bulldog runners taking five out of the top six places in the 1600.

Also in Bigfork, Carson Krack placed second in the triple jump and took fifth in the 400 meter with a PR time of 56.43. Mason Genovese placed second in the 800 and fourth in the 1600. He also took second in the 1600 at Flathead earlier that week.

Senior Kitar Olsen threw 112-05 in discus to place fifth and took 10th in the shot put in Bigfork. At Flathead that same week, Olsen had a personal best throw of 40-11 in shot put to take second.

The boys earned 67 points as a team which came in second to 119 points from Missoula Loyola.
