The Bulldogs took a one-goal lead into halftime against Bigfork on Thursday night and in the second half controlled play to add two more goals and win 4-2.

The Bigfork match was the Bulldog’s homecoming game, and the festivities surrounding the week were enjoyable for the team.

"We felt great to close out the Homecoming Week with the ‘W’. Many thanks to fans who braved the cold and wet at our Thursday match, and to parents and everyone else who helped us enjoy all the other festivities at school,” said head coach John Lacey.

In the rainy game, Bigfork was the first to get on the scoreboard in Thursday’s game when Hunter Miland scored in the 11th minute. Less than a minute later, Whitefish’s Jackson Dorvall scored to knot up the score. Just before halftime in the 34th minute, Bulldog Logan Bingham fired one into the net to give Whitefish a slight lead going into the break.

Though the chances were there, it took Whitefish until the 54th minute to score again when Kane Nissen’s shot from a Collin Lyman assist sailed past the Vikings keeper. The two-goal lead didn’t last for long though as Bigfork’s Levi Peterson scored in the 59th minute. Whitefish squashed a potential Bigfork comeback after Ryder Elliott’s goal with just eight minutes remaining in the game.

Whitefish outshot the Vikings 12-4, with Bulldog goalkeeper Ethan Schott making two saves and Bigfork’s Dale Relyea with eight saves.

Whitefish is now 7-1 on the season.

The Bulldogs continue league play this week — first play the Wildcats in Columbia Falls on Thursday at 7 p.m. and then travel to Libby on Saturday. There are two weeks of regular season play remaining before the playoffs begin on Oct. 15.
