Whitefish Review hosts author Ryan Busse for conversation about “Gunfight”
Whitefish Review will host author Ryan Busse in a reading and conversation with Review editor Brian Schott on Friday, May 20 at Casey’s in downtown Whitefish. The evening will center on creating positive change and an exploration of the political radicalization in America based on Busse’s new book Gunfight.
The book explores the author’s battle against an industry that radicalized America and our country’s fascination with guns and power.
“As we continue to explore our humanity through art and literature, we are happy to welcome Ryan to the stage to discuss his groundbreaking book,” said Schott. “His personal narrative is particularly compelling, as well as his insights into our political radicalization. His book has wide appeal for responsible and forward-thinking people everywhere.”
“I hope my book sparks a conversation that goes way beyond guns,” says Busse. “The issues are not singular and expand outward, which is the through-line of my book, creating positive change.”
Gunfight recounts Busse’s personal transformation and offers a valuable perspective on the state of our nation. His book has received national attention in recent months, from features in The New York Times, The New Yorker, and NPR’s “Fresh Air,” as well as an appearance on “The Daily Show” with Trevor Noah.
As an avid hunter, outdoorsman, and conservationist—all things that the firearms industry was built on—Busse chased a childhood dream and built a successful career selling millions of firearms for one of America’s most popular gun companies. But after watching fear and division in our politics and society become a prime motivator for gun sales, Busse ended his 30-year career to commit to changing our country for the better.
Whitefish Review was founded in 2007 and explores the landscapes of the human condition, our connection to the natural world, and illuminates how the confluence of art and science, alongside the complex issues of our planet and people, is vital for the health of all beings. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with live music by Ryan’s son, Lander Busse. The conversation and reading will begin at 7:30 p.m. A $10 suggested donation is requested to support the non-profit literary journal. After the reading, signed copies of Gunfight will be available for purchase. For more information, visit www.whitefishreview.org or call 261-6190.
