Police Calls: Cinco de Mayo and everyone’s invited
June 2
5:44 a.m. A bear was reportedly seen walking on the sidewalk along Baker Avenue but when the police drove by, there were three deer on the sidewalk and no bear.
8:38 a.m. Someone stole a United States flag from Baker Avenue.
1:08 p.m. Apparently, a piece of construction equipment on Dakota Avenue was the source of an alarm that had been going off for about an hour.
2:13 p.m. A caller is concerned for the welfare of too many cats at a location on Edgewood Place, believing there are close to twenty live cats and three dead ones there.
2:13 p.m. An alarm went off on Second Street but it was triggered by a couple moving a desk.
June 3
8:34 a.m. Two childrens’ bikes at the playground at Smith Fields seemed suspicious to the caller who was worried there were children missing but the bikes had been left there on purpose.
11:03 a.m. A caller found a medium sized, tri-colored dog on Wisconsin Avenue with no collar. Animal Control was sent to pick up the dog.
11:41 a.m. Someone called the police department to ask about the permit for carrying a concealed weapon.
12:39 p.m. A maroon colored hockey bag was reported stolen.
6:28 p.m. A white male on the side of Highway 93 was stumbling into the roadway.
June 4
3:59 a.m. Someone called to invite everyone to a cinco de mayo party.
8:05 a.m. A business on Highway 93 has security footage of a hit and run.
2:41 p.m. A vehicle that was encroaching on the sidewalk on Colorado Avenue was given a warning sticker.
5:16 p.m. A big blue truck parked on the sidewalk on Central Avenue has been an ongoing issue because people are not able to walk on the sidewalk.
6:50 p.m. Another blue truck heading toward Whitefish on Highway 93 was speeding and nearly ran two vehicles off the road.
June 5
2:22 a.m. An employee of a business on Highway 93 was threatened by a male with a white van and a gun on his hip.
8:59 a.m. The husband of the caller backed into a black car on Greenwood Drive.
9:39 a.m. Police answered questions about laws and regulations associated with having a rally on the sidewalk outside of city hall.
3:11 p.m. More questions were answered when a caller wanted to know the consequences of her children’s friends driving without driver’s licenses.
4:22 p.m. Two boys with an airsoft gun were shooting at other youths on the foot bridge. The gun was confiscated and the “shooter” was advised he and his mother could come to the police department to retrieve it. All parties involved were lectured on their behavior and told that shooting at each other would not be tolerated.
4:50 p.m. A caller is concerned for the welfare of a dog that has been left in a vehicle on Second Street and barks all day long.
7:06 p.m. For a few weeks, a white Persian cat has been wandering on to the caller’s property on Somers Avenue.
