May 18, 1972
The Whitefish High School girls’ track team, coached by Bev Faust, scored 102.5 points to take first place at a track meet in Polson. The Whitefish girls captured twelve first place finishes in the fourteen event meet to outscore their closest competitor by sixty points.

May 20, 1982
City engineer Paul Wells’ list of projects was accepted by the Whitefish City Council. Wells explained that some streets are not on the list because of pending water, sewer or storm sewer projects. The council praised Wells for his communication in the department because in the past, newly paved roads were dug up soon afterward by sewer or water crews.

The Whitefish Lake Institute released a study that confirmed septic contamination in the lake and although the lake was considered safe, the Institute recommended a concerted cleanup effort. The Institute’s Executive Director Mike Koopal spoke to council members about preventing septic leachate from degrading water quality.

If Amtrak’s $1.2 billion funding was not authorized for the fiscal year 2003, they could have shut down without notice to customers. Amtrak Communications Director Horward Riefs said the corporation would wait to announce cancellation plans until federal funding support was announced. If funding was not secured, the Empire Builder train could have been among the services discontinued.

Grouse Mountain Phase II received preliminary plat approval from the Whitefish City Council. The 30-lot subdivision is planned west of the current Grouse Mountain subdivision. Developer Tim Grattan presented the plan and one area of concern was whether the roads leading into the subdivision from Seventh Street would be adequate to handle the increased volume of traffic.
