Bulldog boys tennis rolls over CFalls, Libby

The Whitefish boys tennis team is on fire, picking up two more wins last week.

On Thursday the Bulldogs won 6-1 over Columbia Falls playing on the Cats’ home court. Whitefish’s Aaron Dicks led the way with a commanding No. 1 singles win over Orion Barta, 6-0, 6-0. The Bulldogs swept the Cats in singles play with wins also coming from Austin Gunset, Neil Bernat and Johnny Nix.

In doubles play, Whitefish’s top team fell to the CFalls team of Cade Morgan and Cody Schweikert in three sets. The Whitefish team of Highland Lee-French and Mason Kelch struggled in the opening set only winning one game, then won the second set in a tiebreaker, but couldn’t keep the momentum going; the score was 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4. Whitefish’s No. 2 and 3 teams won over the Wildcats.

The Bulldogs then hosted Libby on a blustery Saturday afternoon, beating the Loggers team 6-1.

Whitefish’s No. 1 doubles team, Lee-French and Kelch, put together a strong team performance to win over the Libby team, 6-0, 6-0.

Bulldogs’ No. 2 doubles of Fin Stagg and Jesse Burrough defeated Cylis Goddard and Thomas Roark 6-1, 6-0 and Bulldogs’ team of Dane Hunt and Thad Smith also scored a straight-set victory over Libby’s Zach Fantozzi andAlderic Martineau.

At singles, Dicks again played in the No. 1 match. He faced Libby’s top player Ryan Beagle. The two played a marathon three-set match and Beagle got the better of Dicks, winning 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (3). Dicks played last season and the start of this season in a doubles team and recently made the switch to singles.

Gunset, Bernat and Buren Brust all won in singles play against Libby.

Whitefish now enters its final week of regular season play before heading to the Western A Divisional tournament on May 19.

Whitefish hosts all its matches this week, playing Ronan and Polson on Friday at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively. On Saturday, the Bulldogs play Hamilton and Corvallis beginning at 10 a.m.
