50 Years Ago - March 30, 1972

During the School District 44 elections, voters expressed their opinions about a proposed community center on school grounds or a gymnasium only. Questions regarding funding and the location of the community center remained unanswered.

40 Years Ago - March 25, 1982

Whitefish hammered out new zoning for the city while the county remained unzoned. County commissioners’ policy was to zone only where residents form a district and request it. County Planning Board Director Nick Verma had said the time was not right politically for zoning in Flathead County.

30 Years Ago - March 26, 1992

Swank Enterprises expected to have the $3.5 million construction project at Muldown Elementary School finished by October, two months ahead of schedule. The new construction nearly doubled the size of the original building.

20 Years Ago - March 28, 2002

At least 200 members of the Flathead Electric Cooperative gathered to elect an entirely new board because they were unhappy with the co-op’s performance. The management suffered harsh criticism before being ousted.

10 Years Ago - March 28, 2012

A Whitefish Lake Institute study had found the lake was safe but various degrees of septic contamination were found. The findings supported results from previous studies. The Institute’s Executive Director Mike Koopal said if work was not done to prevent further contamination the lake could become unsafe.
